Today we continued watching the movie A Christmas Carol.  They saw the scenes with the first and second spirit.  We will continue watching the film tomorrow.  Students are responsible for a graphic organizer that they are using to record similarities and differences.

No Homework.

On another note, last week I was informed that this website will no longer be available after break.  The district has decided to go with a different website provider.  That means I will have a new webpage starting in January.  Please be patient with me as I learn to navigate the site.  I have not seen it yet, nor do I even know what the company we are using is called.  The information does not transfer over, so I will need to build my resources on the new site.  I do know that you will be able to access my site via the Parker Middle School webpage.  I plan to have a blog on the new website.

Today we finished the prewriting activities and began typing the personal narrative story.  Students created a simile and a metaphor to include in their personal narrative.  It is written in the prewriting packet.  Next students logged into the Google classroom.  We reviewed the resources for the assignment in Google classroom.  Attached to the assignment there are exemplars, a self-assessment/checklist (this is also in their prewriting packet), ways to title a story, and a descriptive words list.  They started to type.  This assignment can be accessed at home as well.  They can access it anywhere they can log into their google chrome account.  The assignment is due Monday 11/28.  We will be typing now until Tuesday 11/22 in class.

Reminders:

11/11: report cards go home

We are working on a prewriting graphic organizer for a personal narrative story we will be writing.  Students wrote leads, completed a sensory chart with details about the setting of the story, and described two important people in the story.  Please be asking your child about the event in their life they chose to write about.  We can help with drafting the story, but it is difficult for us to come up with an idea for them to write about since we were not there.  We can ask lots of questions to spark their memory, and you can help with details that they may have forgotten.

I am attaching the packet and a brainstorm list of common personal narrative topics for sixth grade students.

11/4: Quarter 1 ends (all assignments need to be turned by this day)

11/11: report cards go home

Today we began preparing to write a Personal Narrative.  Students will be writing a story about an event that happened in their life.   In class we began with a brainstorm of positive and negative events that happened to them.  Next they narrowed the list down to two topics.  Then they completed the 5 W’s chart for each of the two events.

Please talk to your child about the story they are choosing to write about.  We were not there, so it is difficult to generate ideas with them.  We can help them the other aspects of the assignment, but choosing a topic can be hard for us to help with other than giving them a possible list of topics.

NO HOMEWORK if they have a positive and negative chart.
