Parker Press for 12/8/17

Heart and Sole (Girls on the Run)

Heart and Sole (Girls on the Run) will be available to our Parker girls this upcoming spring.   For the program to "run", we need volunteer coaches (no Girls on the Run experience needed).   Heart and Sole sessions will take place immediately after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.    Sessions will be ninety-minutes and we will be meeting for 10 weeks (starting March 5th - May 25th, 2018),   Please contact Mrs. Grabowski in guidance if you are interested in volunteering to be part of the Heart and Sole coaching team.    See attachment for more Heart and Sole information: Girls on the Run Flyer

Parent Pick Up/Drop Off

As is now very dark in the morning at drop off time, please make sure that you have your full attention when dropping off.  Also, if you are parking during drop off, you must walk your child to the curb.  If you are dropping off in the front after 7:20am, students must be walked and signed in.  Please no dropping off in the front before 7:20am.  We have these structures in order to keep all students safe.

PTO Cookie Donation for Staff

The PTO is organizing a cookie exchange for the Parker Staff.  In order to accomplish their goal they are asking that some parents volunteer to bring 5 dozen cookies.  If you can’t bring 5 dozen, any donation would be appreciated.  Please bring your cookie donations to the office on December 12th before 10am.  Thank you so much for making this holiday season brighter for our staff.

Parker Happenings

  • Today the PTO sponsored an assembly by Rodney Page.  Rodney is a very talented musician who can DJ, beatbox, and play the electric violin.  Besides displaying his musical talents, he spoke with our students about confidence, perseverance, and peer pressure.  The students loved his engaging presentation.

  • Today the 8th grade boys basketball team played the staff, including our superintendent Mr. McGregor.  It was a very intense game.  The students were down by 6 with two minutes to go.  The students tied it up when the clock ran out.  We did a quick 2 minute overtime which ended in another tie.  It was a great game.

  • In between the faculty/student game our Unified Champion Sports program played.  7th and 8th graders have given up their lunch several times this year to team up with students in our cognitively impaired program.  The students in the stands cheered loudly and chanted students’ names.  It was a great example of acceptance and appreciating individual differences.

  • In Patriot Time students have been continuing our book study of Wonder.  Students are really enjoying the book study as well as the conversations about the middle school life.  A recent topic was about sitting with students who are alone at lunch.  Several students have begun sitting with other students so that they are not alone at lunch.  Before winter break each Patriot Time will spend a few days working on a project for a the community or beyond.  Some classes are making care packages for soldiers, christmas cards for assisted living centers, and assisting local community groups.
