Dear Parker Patriots,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! My name is Stacy Downer and I teach 6th and 7th grade ELA, as well as 6th and 7th grade Writer's Studio. I love being a Parker Patriot! 

I am excited to help your son/daughter become confident, lifelong readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. Our courses of study are aligned to Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations.  During the school year, we will be studying various literary genres.  Grade 6 will focus on action and adventure, personal narrative, research, and fantasy.  Grade 7 will focus on memoir, mythology, mystery, drama, and poetry. During our genre studies, we will concentrate heavily in the areas of analyzing literature and reading comprehension. Students will learn how to respond personally and critically to diverse text, make judgments, and evaluate and draw conclusions using Reading Apprenticeship. Additionally, students will be writing expository essays, which will be taught using the Power Writing technique along with the 6+1 writing traits.

I encourage you to check out this website for additional information related to our classroom happenings.  I hope to use my webpage as an outlet to provide students and families with as much information as possible regarding what we are learning in ELA and Write On. It is my goal to have a very structured learning environment and to maintain open lines of communication will all of my families!
